Enver Casimir-Kang

Education:
Harvard University, AB
University of North Carolina, PhD

What did you study in college?
History.

What courses do you teach at College Prep?
I teach US and The World to half of the juniors and have offered seminars such as Race in Latin-America History and Sport & Society in Historical Perspective. This second course focused on the United States, exploring how sport has articulated and reinforced dominant gender and racial ideologies in American society, before shifting to a global perspective by examining the complex relationship between sport and nationalism.

What was your pathway to teaching?
I planned to pursue a PhD and teach college, but ended up in finance. Still, history stayed with me, so I returned to grad school. After four years of teaching college, I shifted to independent schools.

What do you love about teaching College Prep students?
CPS students are genuinely excited to learn. Their curiosity makes teaching more engaging and pushes me to see the world in new ways.

What is your favorite College Prep tradition?
Weekly assemblies. That sense of togetherness—gathering just to share space—is something I really value.

If you could make an everyday activity into an Olympic sport, what would you win a medal in?
Driving through very narrow spaces.
